Music night raises £1,500 for Greece refugee aid trip

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to our latest fundraising night and helped raise an amazing £1,500.

The money will help support a trip to Greece this week by two of our committee members. CamCRAG chair Lara and convoy organiser Sarah are visiting refugee aid organisations to look at how we can build relationships and offer our help and support. They will also be donating funds for vital supplies.

The LegacyAid event at the NCI Sports and Social Club in Cambridge on Saturday (Feb 18) saw local musicians paying tribute to some of the pop greats who passed away last year including David Bowie, George Michael and Rick Parfitt. We were also lucky enough to be given the only signed copy of the Sargent Pepper’s style collage featuring the celebrities we lost in 2016 which became a social media viral hit, raising £560 in an online auction on the night.

Most refugees fleeing civil war and terrorism in the Middle East make their first landing on European land on Lesvos and receive aid and assistance from both locals and organised groups from further afield. While CamCRAG will continue to support refugees in Northern France we are looking to see whether we can do even more and connect with groups on the ground in Greece who are providing clothes, food and medicines.
