This year’s sponsored sleepout has so far raised over £14,000! We would like to thank everyone who helped to organise the event, those who came to the winter fair on the day, all of you who donated so generously, and most of all our sleepers who braved a night in Storm Dennis to help refugees in Europe and the homeless of Cambridge.
There is still time to sponsor one of the sleepers for their amazing efforts: Donate online via our sleepers’ page at camcrag.org.uk/sleepout2020/sleepers2020
Sponsorship has so far raised over £12,000, with another £2,000 coming during the winter fair from sales and donations. The money will be split between CamCRAG and the Cambridge Churches Homeless Project (CCHP)
Visitors to the fair were treated to a free concert from ReSound Choir, and talks from several guests, including former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, who spoke passionately about the Government’s recent refusal to resettle child refugees currently living in appalling conditions in Northern France (photo credit Paul Christie & Roger Giddings).
Then, after the Fair, the sponsored sleepers settled down, if possible, to spend the night sleeping under canvas while Storm Dennis swirled all around. Below is a video from CamCRAG Chair Elliot Harris, filmed at 3.30am, in which he describes just how difficult it must be to live outside in such conditions night after night.
