CamCRAG supporters raise £10,000!

Fantastic news – thanks to the huge generosity of our supporters we have reached the target of our one year anniversary appeal. You have helped us raise an amazing £10,000 to support refugees in Northern France!
The appeal was launched just over two months ago and Cambridge residents have responded by donating money through our online appeal page, contributing to collections at faith groups and community events and supporting our fundraisers.
Lara Brettell, CamCRAG chair said: “We are so grateful to the people of Cambridge for their generosity and kindness. We wanted to set an ambitious target, but we had no idea we would reach it so soon.
“When we launched this appeal the French Government were preparing to demolish the Jungle refugee camp in Calais. Since then a lot has changed, but the refugees are still in Calais, Dunkirk and Paris and they still need our help. Many of the minors who were in the Jungle camp have now gone missing and the UK has still not fulfilled its promise to take in 2,000 young people from the area.
“This money will be spent on essentials like food, clothes and sleeping bags as well as phone credit so refugees can communicate with their family members. We are working with trusted agencies on the ground to ensure our supporters’ money makes the most difference to these people.”
We will be sending our last volunteer convoy of 2016 this weekend to help in the Calais warehouse sorting donations, and the convoys will start again next year. To find out more and to volunteer visit
Although we have reached our appeal target there are still fundraising events happening – a children’s festive concert on Saturday at East Barnwell Community Centre, and a Christmas concert at Christ’s College on Friday December 16. Visit for details.
