Afghanistan

The crisis in Afghanistan underlines why we need to fight the Nationality and Borders Bill. Afghans escaping the Taliban have been arriving for years and many more are now expected to make the overland journey to the UK to reach family and friends. Under Priti Patel’s plans, they will be criminalised for this.

In Cambridge, local charities are being overwhelmed with offers of donations and new volunteers. No Afghans have yet arrived in the Cambridge area but, when they do, Cambridge Refugee Resettlement Campaign (CRRC) is the group to talk to for volunteers wanting to help.

In the meantime, the advice is to hang onto anything you want to donate to Afghan refugees or approach Refugees At Home or Room for Refugees if you’d like to offer accommodation.
